Updated: Aug 12, 2019

It is with great sadness we inform you that Captain Aage Lindstad passed away this weekend at the age of 81. He passed away peacefully at his home in Florida surrounded by his family.

Captain Aage Lindstad was widely known for his contribution to the cruise industry in South Florida. He was the first captain in the newly formed Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. A feat he took on at the age of only 32. In honor of his contributions to the company, flags on Royal Caribbean International ships were flown half-mast on Tuesday, July 16, 2019.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Captain Aage Lindstad generously gave his time and dedication to the Norwegian community in South Florida. Together with Sven Dahl, he founded the Norwegian Shipping Club in 1982. Captain Aage Lindstad served as the President for the Norwegian Shipping Club. The Norwegian Shipping Club and the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce, Florida Chapter, later joined forces and merged into what is known today as the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce, South East Chapter Inc. (“Florida” for short). Captain Aage Lindstad was a pioneer and a pillar in the Norwegian community. We will forever be grateful for Captain Aage Lindstad’s contribution to our organization.

A memorial service will take place at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in Davie (2950 S. Flamingo Road, Davie FL 33331) on August 31, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
